Making Sounds at Home: Fizzy pop drum kit
Create a set of drums using clingfilm and fizzy pop! This is one of the sessions in a series ‘Making Sounds at Home’ by Tom Peel.
This guide is part of our Sense Arts, Sport & Wellbeing programme. This activity can be done at a time that suits you, either in your own space or in an educational setting.
Who is this for?
This is a crafting activity for people who are deafblind or have complex disabilities and can be enjoyed by anyone.
Why does this make a difference?
This is a creative activity that helps people explore and expand their creative choices while supporting independence in the activity. It can also be used afterwards as part of a sensory music session.
How to do this activity
What you’ll need
- Durable glasses and bowls of various sizes
- Clingfilm
- Tinfoil
- Tape
- Two pens or pencils
- Some fizzy pop
Step 1
Pour a small amount of fizzy pop into your glass/bowl. Ensure the outside of the glass/bowl is dry.
Step 2
Cover the bowls or glasses with clingfilm, pulling it tight over the top, then tightly wrap some tape around the outside. Give the glass/bowl a couple of gentle shakes – the bubbles from the pop should inflate the clingfilm cover into a dome shape.
Step 3
Set out your drums and give them all a tap with a pencil, pen or another drumstick-like item.
Top tips
- For a different drum sound add a layer of tinfoil before the clingfilm on one of the glasses/bowls.
- Use alongside upturned saucepans!
- Add food colouring!
- You can use these drums in another part of the series, in this video here.
