Lesson 1 with Mr Tyrese – The Basics

Audio described version of Mr Tyrese’s first lesson available on YouTube with transcript

I’ve always been Deaf, but as soon as my Mum, Nan and Grandad could, they started learning sign language to make life easier for me. Mum looks for Deaf-friendly events we can go to like Deaf clubs, and she makes sure I have a BSL interpreter whenever she knows I’ll need one.

I’ve had so much fun teaching British Sign Language (BSL) at Sense Sign School over the last few months – can you believe I’ve had over 50,000 students?!

I wanted to be involved in Sense Sign School because sometimes people don’t feel comfortable saying hello to me because I’m Deaf, and they worry about getting it wrong. To have so many of you sign up to learn some British Sign Language has made me really happy.

Now, onto your homework. How about using my lesson to practise signing the basic? Give it a go in the mirror or post a video for your friends using #SenseSignSchool.

Tomorrow it’s family, when I’ll tell you a little more about mine.

See you then.

Mr. Tyrese
