Talking to MPs and peers about the impact of the cost of living crisis on disabled people
The day after we handed our cost of living petition in at 10 Downing Street, we went back to parliament to talk to more MPs and peers about the impact of the crisis on disabled people.
We spoke to 20 MPs and peers from across parliament. We talked to them about how disabled people need long term support through the cost of living crisis.
This involves reforming the benefits system and providing targeted support with energy bills.
One of the people we spoke to was the Minister for Disabled People, Tom Pursglove. We had a long discussion with him about the next steps the government is taking to support disabled people through the upcoming Health and Disability White Paper.
The event was sponsored by Shadow Minister for Disabled People Vicky Foxcroft, a previous Sense Parliamentarian of the Year. She regularly champions the needs of disabled people in the House of Commons.
While we were at the event, we gave MPs Sense badges, and we were thrilled to see Jo Gideon wearing hers during Prime Minister’s Questions.
We were also happy to see Ian Byrne highlighting our cost of living campaign in parliament.
