Family Days for families of disabled children

A place where your family belongs

Finding activities that truly work for disabled children with complex needs can be difficult. Accessibility barriers, unsuitable activities and feeling out of place are experiences many families know all too well.

Family Days are designed differently. They provide a welcoming, inclusive environment where children can take part, have fun and enjoy new experiences alongside their families.

Designed around your child

Every Family Day is planned with disabled children and young people in mind.

Activities are flexible and free-flowing, allowing families to move between sessions at their own pace.

Whether your child wants to explore, take a break or revisit a favourite activity, there’s space to do what works best for them. Most importantly, children are supported to participate fully, rather than watching from the sidelines.

“The ball pit was a highlight for Leo, but also important in terms of his development.

It’s great for teaching disabled children to be more aware of their bodies, and Leo had a ball with the other children too.”

There’s something special about walking into a Sense Family Day. Everyone is – if you’ll excuse the pun – having a ball!

Exciting experiences for everyone

Family Days take place in a variety of settings, from specialist centres to outdoor adventures and community venues.

Some examples of the activities we run are:

  • Sensory storytelling

Interactive stories brought to life through sounds, textures, movement and sensory props, helping children engage with stories in their own way.

  • Climbing challenges

Supported climbing sessions that give children the opportunity to try new activities, build confidence and achieve things they may never have thought possible.

  • Water adventures

Boat trips and other water-based experiences that offer rich sensory opportunities, from feeling the wind and movement of the water to enjoying time outdoors.

Other Family Days may include visits to attractions, nature activities and exciting experiences such as sailing, snow tubing and trips to the zoo!

Support for the whole family

Family Days are not just for children. Parents, carers and siblings can relax, have fun and connect with other families who understand their experiences.

Many families tell us that Family Days help reduce feelings of isolation and provide a valuable sense of community and belonging.

“Attending the day was a truly wonderful experience for our family. The event was well-organised, warm, and welcoming, and it was clear that a lot of thought and care went into making it special for the children. The staff were incredibly kind, patient, and supportive, and their positive energy made the day even more enjoyable.”
