What is Sense Hub Belfast?

A mother has her arms wrapped around her son, he is smiling into her cheek. In front of them there are bongo drums.

Sense Hub Belfast has been designed in collaboration with disabled people, with their needs at its heart.

It’s a safe space to meet people, try new things, and gain confidence. Sense Hub Belfast is a place where you can learn skills and try all sorts of new activities. From creating art in the studio, to trying new recipes in the kitchen, to relaxing in our multi-sensory room.

“I feel like this hub is going to mean that there’s always somewhere for us to come to as a family. It’s always a safe space, where we feel like we belong.”

Flexible support for young people aged 14-35

Navigating between services can be challenging. That’s why we offer flexible transition support for young people, including groups and skills training to help build confidence and independence.

Tailored support for adults aged 18+

We offer personal, one-to-one support through our registered day services and opportunities. The exact approach will depend on the individual and their needs. We make a unique plan for each person.

Jamie’s story

Jamie sharing a laugh with a support worker as they both drink a cup of tea on the sofa.

Jamie moved into a Sense supported living service in Belfast two years ago. Until then, he lived at home with his parents and younger siblings. Jamie is blind and has learning disabilities and has received support from Sense throughout his life.

He is now part of our transition group which supports young people aged 14-35 to access social opportunities, experiences in the community, and life lessons. The group teaches independence through skills like self-care, money management, and budgeting.

When Patrick from our transition team first met Jamie, he said he was shy and somebody who sat in the background a bit. When asked how he is now, Patrick says “his confidence has just rocketed. He plays an active part in everything he does, and he loves being around people. He’s really just thriving.”
