Sense Cymru (Wales)

Sense Cymru provides a range of services across Wales for deafblind people and their families.

Sense Cymru officeWhile the main focus of our work is with people who have a dual sensory loss – a loss of sight and hearing at a level where people are experiencing difficulties with mobility, accessing information and communication - we also work with individuals who have a single sensory loss and other disabilities.

How we help

With staff based in North, Mid, West and South Wales, Sense Cymru’s services include:

  • Specialist one-to-one support for deafblind people through both communicator guides and intervenors
  • Outreach support to children, families and deafblind adults in their own homes
  • Specialist assessments of both deafblind adults and children
  • A range of training courses
  • Local and national campaigning
  • Policy advice and engagement with the Welsh Government and local authorities
  • Specialist advice on deafblindness to colleagues in the statutory, independent and voluntary sectors

Support in the community

"I would like to say thank you for your help and encouragement and for visiting me in my home. Because of my health problems and associated drugs that have left me weak, this is the only way I can get out.

"Once again many thanks to you all for your kindness to me over the years."
Deafblind lady, aged 85

"I get such a lot from the service. To have help with my communication means a lot. Without this service I wouldn’t have the confidence to go out alone. People have no patience. I’m very grateful.”

"I can't measure the pleasure I get out of it."
