This could include building confidence and independence, reaching an important milestone or bringing joy and connection to others. Young Person of the Year recognises a disabled young person (under 18) with complex needs who has achieved something truly significant, whether through a personal breakthrough, breaking down barriers, or creating positive change for others. This could include achieving an important milestone, building confidence or independence, developing communication skills, forming friendships or succeeding at school or in a hobby. Family of the Year recognises a family, that includes at least one disabled person with complex needs, and celebrates the love, resilience and teamwork that help them break down barriers together. The award recognises the important role played by parents, siblings and wider family members in supporting one another, overcoming challenges, creating opportunities and building a strong, caring and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. Campaigner of the Year recognises a disabled person or group who have created meaningful change by breaking down disabling barriers in society. They may have influenced policy, challenged prejudice and negative attitudes, raised awareness, or helped ensure disabled people with complex needs have greater choice, inclusion and influence over the decisions that shape their lives. Media Moment of the Year recognises a powerful media moment that sparked conversation, challenged perceptions or raised awareness about disability. This could include a television show, news story, social media campaign, documentary, podcast, article or public moment that helped shine a light on the experiences of disabled people, challenged stereotypes, amplified disabled voices or inspired positive change in attitudes, understanding or accessibility. Fundraiser of the Year recognises a person or group who have gone the extra mile to raise vital funds for Sense, through a personal challenge, community or national fundraising event. Volunteer of the Year recognises someone who has selflessly given their time to Sense, making a real difference through donating their time and energy. They will have gone above and beyond for Sense in their role, with evidence of real impact due to their volunteering. Digital Voice of the Year recognises a disabled person who uses their digital platform to challenge disabling barriers and create positive change. They may raise awareness, share lived experiences, challenge stereotypes, inspire action, build supportive communities or provide advice, representation and encouragement to others. The award celebrates the power of using digital platforms to amplify disabled voices, foster connection and improve understanding of disability and inclusion.
