Disability Awareness Training

Fostering inclusivity in the workplace

Disabled people, particularly those with complex disabilities face many barriers in the labour market, including a lack of support while looking for roles, inaccessible recruitment practices and sometimes non-inclusive environment in their workplace.

To help to remove these barriers, we are excited to be offering disability awareness training to businesses and groups in 2025.

This initial session introduces attendees to key concepts around supporting individuals with disabilities in the workplace.

Focusing on sight loss, hearing loss as well as hidden disabilities, such as neurodivergence and mental health conditions.

We equip attendees with practical steps to foster a more inclusive environment as well as strategies to reduce stigma and create a workspace where everyone can thrive.

Did you know the employment rate of disabled people is 53%, compared to 82% of non-disabled people?

Over half of people with complex disabilities in work said they’d taken a less challenging role because of their needs as a disabled person not being met.

Jade (right) didn’t believe work was an option due to her disabilities until she contacted Sense’s employment service in 2021.

With support from Sense and her employment coach, Zoe, she started applying for jobs and in 2023 all of Jade’s hard work paid off and she was offered a job on a NHS staff bank, following a successful interview.

“It’s made me realise that I was wrong to doubt my capabilities. I thought I wouldn’t be able to get a job off my own merit but that’s exactly what I’ve done”.
