East London buddying volunteer information session

Are you interested in volunteering for Sense and becoming a face to face Sense Buddy in East London? Find out more in a virtual drop in session with the Sense Buddying team on 5th March, 12.30pm to 1.30pm.

Part of National Careers Week, this informal session will give you the opportunity to find out more about Sense and the sort of activities you'd get up to as a Sense Buddy. You'll also find out how we'll be keeping volunteers and young people safe throughout the coronavirus pandemic, as well as get the chance to ask us lots of questions.

You'll need to be 18 to volunteer as a Sense Buddy as well as be available for a minimum of six months. Depending on government restrictions your role as a Sense Buddy may start virtually.

What is a Sense Buddy?

Sense Buddying gives disabled children and young people with complex needs the opportunity to get involved with activities in the local community, make the most of their free time and make friends. Volunteer as a Sense Buddy and you’ll be matched with one young person, so you can concentrate on building a friendship that is truly special.

Volunteering as a Sense Buddy could be great if you're looking to start a career in the disability sector as as a nurse, or if you're looking to make a difference in your community.

What the Sense Buddying team are looking for:

  • Volunteers who understand the value of giving a person choice, independence and dignity
  • Willingness to develop or learn new skills in order to best support one particular young person
  • Reliability and good communication skills
  • A sense of fun and adventure!
