Sensory Walks: Training Workshop

What are Sensory Walks?

Sensory walks allow you to use your senses to connect with your surroundings whilst being active. At Sense, we have developed this innovative programme to help support people with complex disabilities and sensory impairments to actively engage with their senses along fully accessible walking routes in their local area.

Who is this workshop suitable for?

This is a free virtual workshop being organised by Sense. It is suitable for anyone with an interest in developing and leading a sensory walk. This may include:

  • Walk leaders/volunteers
  • Health & social care staff
  • Nature based practitioners
  • School staff
  • Anyone working with, or supporting, disabled people

As a follow up to the workshop, we will be looking to partner with organisations to increase the provision of led sensory walks and mapped sensory routes. If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, then this workshop is for you.

Workshop aims

The workshop aims to improve your understanding of sensory walks, and how to plan safe and accessible walks, as well as top tips on activities that engage the senses.

This 2hr workshop will cover:

  • What Sensory Walks are and why we have developed the programme
  • How to plan safe and accessible walks
  • Ideas for Sensory Highlights along your walk
  • Mindfulness and Sensory Activities
  • Mapping walks on OS Maps, Strava and the Sense website
