Sensory Stories | Birmingham Autumn Term (0-4 Years)

Our sensory stories sessions are a targeted support programme which focus on developing communication skills. We use different textures, sensations and sounds to immerse ourselves in a story and really bring it to life! Alongside our stories, our sessions include a range of sensory activities which incorporate our different senses to offer new stimuli, engage children and enrich their experience.

At Sense, we use a total communication approach to enable each individual to express themselves in whatever way works best for them, through a combination of sounds, signs, symbols, technology and much more! During this communication programme we guide families through activities and techniques to improve communication skills, such as listening, understanding, attention, speaking, expression and gesture, to enhance overall communication. Families will also receive a resource pack so that they have the tools and ideas to continue this support at home and feel confident to do so. We will also be adding 'sign of the week' modelling how to properly and appropriately use Makaton signs with your child as a form of communication. You will receive a lanyard to collect each sign of the week and use this as flash cards and practice reminders at home.

Our targeted support programmes run for the full term and provide families with the opportunity to work towards individual targets, in line with recognised frameworks. Over the 10 weeks we will be able to provide techniques to help your child build on their targets and be able to talk about next steps that can continue to build on the skills they have learned.

We recommend that you attend just one targeted support programme per term to ensure you receive the most benefit from it. We also recommend you attend as many sessions in the 10 week block as possible so that there is optimum opportunities to keep building on skills throughout the course.
