Friends of Sense NI

Friends of Sense NI is a support group for people with complex disabilities and their loved ones and carers.

The group is a space for people to connect and learn from each other. You might be interested in joining if you’re:

  • Someone with complex disabilities
  • A family member or friend of someone with complex disabilities
  • A Sense volunteer
  • A Sense supporter
  • Sense staff

Through Friends of Sense NI, we raise awareness and advocate for the people Sense supports. We also fundraise for our services across Northern Ireland.

Connecting people with disabilities across Northern Ireland

Friends of Sense NI regularly run activities to support people with complex disabilities of all ages.

In 2021, our Not Alone project brought together people over 60 with sensory impairments. Many were isolated because of the pandemic, and hadn’t been able to use technology like Zoom. As part of a Covid-safe social group, we took people out for day trips to the seaside, arts and crafts sessions and afternoon tea.

Reaching Out – Connecting Families was a project that brought together families of children under four with complex needs. For these families, we ran online sessions including sensory story time, Makaton songs and music therapy.
