Sense has responded to today’s report from Demos, calling on Work Capability Assessment to be reformed.
Sense Deputy CEO, Richard Kramer, said:
“Work Capability Assessment (WCA) is not fit for purpose and needs to be overhauled. We need a system that is designed to meet the needs of disabled people.
Disabled people need to be assessed fairly. The current test is simply not responsive enough to people’s individual circumstances and fails to take into account all of the factors that may limit their ability to work.
We need a system that takes into account the actual barriers to work a person is facing, which should distinguish between people who can be supported into work, and those who can’t work due to the seriousness of their disability or health condition.”
