Which roles do you recruit for?

Our permanent roles within retail include Shop Managers, Assistant Shop Managers, Area Managers and Drivers.


Where are your shops based?

We have over 100 Sense Shops across England and Wales. Find your nearest shop.


I'm interested in volunteering in a Sense shop – how do I apply?

As a volunteer in our shop team, you'll raise funds and awareness to support all aspects of the work Sense does, in a friendly and welcoming team. Find out more about our volunteering roles.


I don't have previous retail experience – can I still apply?

Yes, when you see our roles advertised you'll see the previous skills and experience that's required for the role. For most of our roles previous experience is not required.


What's the application process?

For all of our roles you'll need to complete the online application form on the Sense job vacancies websiteOnce the closing date has passed, managers will commence shortlisting, and you'll then be invited to interview if you meet the minimum criteria.


I've been successful in securing a role – what happens next?

Congratulations on your new role. Once your job offer is made and accepted by you, you’ll have a dedicated Recruitment Administrator who will complete all relevant background checks and reference history before you can start at Sense.


What will I be doing on a day to day basis?

As a Driver, you'll be:

  • Supporting shop teams to maximise stock and sales
  • Carrying out stock movement across the area
  • Ensuring health and safety guidelines are adhered to
  • Delivering excellent customer services to both internal and external customers

As an Assistant Shop Manager, you'll be:

  • Supporting the Shop Manager to deliver excellent shop standards
  • Managing volunteers
  • Maximising sales through great customer service
  • A Sense brand ambassador 

As a Shop Manager, you'll be:

  • Delivering excellent shop standards
  • Managing volunteers
  • Maximising sales through great customer service
  • A Sense brand ambassador 

As an Area Manager, you'll be:

  • Providing effective, inspirational leadership to the area team
  • A great communicator and keen to support or challenge teams to deliver their very best
  • Setting objectives to maximise shop sales and deliver effective cost controls in order to maximise profit
  • Visiting Sense shops 

What hours will I be working?

We have both full time and part time opportunities, which will be detailed on our job adverts. Our shops are open Monday to Sunday, so you'll need to work weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis.


Will I need to wear a uniform?

You won't need to wear a uniform for our trading roles, but you'll be expected to wear smart clothing that represents Sense positively at all times.  


What training and support will I receive?

When you start at Sense you'll complete a range of face-to-face and eLearning induction modules, which include safeguarding and equality and diversity, as well as the opportunity to take an online British Sign Language (BSL) module. You'll also receive a tailored induction based on your new role.


Will my role involve ongoing development opportunities?

Yes, following on from your induction, you'll have plenty of opportunities to learn within your job. Every day you'll learn from the interactions with colleagues and coaching from a brilliant team around you. Supported in your role by your manager, your development will be thoughtfully planned. Above all, we'll invest in you as an individual. We recognise that your life experiences and interests are just as valuable as having qualifications.
