Sense College COVID-19 statement

Last updated August 2020

Since the start of the COVID-19 this year we have all been in unprecedented, uncertain and testing circumstances. We know this is particularly challenging for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and their families, and those who work tirelessly to support and care for them.

We have produced this Sense College COVID-19 statement to reassure you of our commitment to providing a COVID-19 secure college environment for the young people we work with both now and for the future and our staff.

Young people with SEND are at the centre of our planning activities and the forefront of our minds. Our COVID-19 secure college environment is advised by Sense (our parent charity), Department for Education (DfE) guidelines, Public Health England (PHE) guidelines and local authorities we work with, to make sure we focus our efforts in the right places.

We have a whole college COVID-19 Risk Assessment developed to reassure staff and families of our work. This includes our plans for operating in accordance with national government guidelines and our approach for national and local lockdown situations. This risk assessment is provided within Parent Information Packs and is available upon request. Find out how to get in touch with the Sense College team.

We encourage you to keep up to date by regularly checking the government’s webpages on COVID-19. We know the guidance changes regularly and if you are in any doubt please contact your local college centre manager.

We also ask you to keep up to date by regularly checking the NHS Test and Trace process.  This is very important as it is vital we take the appropriate steps to protect all the vulnerable people we work with, as well as our staff.

If you have any queries relating to COVID-19 or the above statement, please contact any of the College Senior Management Team members below:

Thank you again for supporting us in being able to securely manage the ongoing education and learning of the young people in your families at this difficult time.
