We have a host of resources that will help sports practitioners, coaches, teachers and support staff provide sensory experiences for people who are deafblind or disabled. 

We also support the sports and social care sectors through consultation and training. Our tools, training and resources can help you ensure your sports programmes are more inclusive and accessible.

Quick facts about Sense Active

  • We’ve delivered over 7,000 inclusive sport and physical activity sessions.
  • Over 5,000 individuals have attended Sense Active activities.
  • We’ve received over £2m funding from Sport England to deliver meaningful sport and physical activity opportunities for people with sensory or complex disabilities.

Training and workshops

We offer workshops that are designed to help you support people with disabilities in sports and movement-based activities. 

Connecting differently through sport workshops

Who’s it for?

Aimed at people in a range of different roles, the workshop is useful for PE teachers, health and social care organisations or charities, sports development professionals and leisure centre staff, including front of house staff.

What will you learn?

This workshop will increase your awareness, teach you specialist skills and build your confidence when supporting disabled people to access sport.

  • Understand the different disabilities a participant may have – and how these may affect someone taking part in a sport and physical activity session.
  • Learn about the barriers to participation that people with sensory impairments and complex disabilities face – as well as solutions to overcome them.
  • Understand how to communicate with people with sensory impairments and complex disabilities using a range of communication methods
  • Feel more confident to adapt a sport and physical activity session to make it more accessible to all.

Pricing

Online learning classroom (Two hours)

  • Individual cost: £20 per person
  • Organisation cost: £200 for between 6 – 15 people

Face to face workshops (Three hours)

  • Individual cost: £45 per person
  • Organisation cost: £450 for between 8 – 24 people and tutor travel expenses

Sensory walks workshop

Who’s it for?

Activity leaders who will lead sensory walks and are looking to improve the accessibility and inclusivity of their programmes.

What will you learn?

The sensory walks training aims to improve your understanding of sensory walks, how to plan safe and accessible walks, as well as top tips on activities that engages the senses.

The training is suitable for all levels of experience, however, if you have limited experience we’d also recommend attending an introductory walk leader training.

Sensory football workshop

Who’s it for?

Find out how to organise sensory football activities for people with complex disabilities with our workshop.

The training is for organisations who support people with complex disabilities to be active, no other football qualifications are needed.

Sensory football activities are an accessible way to make sure that people with complex disabilities can get the most out of sport. If you support people with complex disabilities to take part in sport, we’ve put together a workshop, videos and a handy toolkit to help you lead your sessions.
