How to do this activity
What you’ll need
- Old egg cartons
- Scissors
- Paints
- Paintbrushes
- String
- A skewer, knitting needle or similar to poke a hole through your ‘flowers’
- A stick or similar to hang your strands from
Step 1
Cut the tops off the egg carton boxes (save them for another craft project). Cut the egg carton tray up into separate pieces, then snip the edges of each piece so they start to look like flowers. Be creative and try a range of shapes – pointy or curved petals work well.
Step 2
Paint the flowers and leave them to dry, then poke a hole through the base of each with your skewer.
Step 3
Cut different lengths of string, and tie a knot on one end. Then thread on your first egg cup, tying a knot beneath it when it’s in the right position. Repeat this several times, spacing the egg cups out at regular intervals.
Step 4
Finally, tie each strand onto your stick and hang in the window or anywhere else you’d like to show them off!
Top tips
- Make it extra-sensory by tying bells to the ends, so they make a noise in the breeze.
