How to make a dreamcatcher

You can get really creative when making a dreamcatcher, using up scraps from your craft box, items rescued from the recycling or even using things you’ve found in the garden. Experiment and see what works best for you!

How to do this activity

What you’ll need

  • Something round to form the base of the dream catcher, like a cross-stitch hoop or thick card
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Glue
  • Things to decorate, like string, yarn or ribbon, beads, feathers, plastic bottles, washi tape, paint, coloured paper, felt tip pens or whatever you can find!

Step 1

Make your dreamcatcher’s hoop, if you don’t have one.

Step 2

Decorate your hoop with paint, glue, or felt-tips, and leave to dry if needed. Then wrap it with string, yarn or ribbons to make the web.

Step 3

Cut a few pieces of yarn or string in different lengths. Tie one end to the bottom rim of your dream catcher and then attach decorations by threading or tying them onto the other end.
