Exploring fabric and sound workshop

Explore music, textures, and what connects them in this workshop, which encourages us to reflect on the things around us that bring us comfort and features two songs sung by Dike Okoh.

This guide is part of our Sense Arts, Sport & Wellbeing programme. This activity can be done at a time that suits you, either in your own space or in an educational setting.

Who is this for?

This is a workshop for people who are deafblind or have complex disabilities and can be enjoyed by anyone.

Why does this make a difference?

This is a sensory workshop that supports wellbeing and relaxation, promotes independent choice, and helps people use their senses to connect with their surroundings by exploring touch, textures and song.

What happens in the video?

Step 1

Listen to Dike’s first song, then pause the video, and go find a piece of fabric or soft item that makes you think of the song, or reminds you of a pleasant memory.

Step 2

Follow along with Dike’s instructions on how to reflect on the fabric and how it makes you feel.

Step 3

Repeat the steps above with the second song, thinking about memories and the ways we can use fabrics to bring us comfort.

This activity was created by the songwriter and musician Dike Okoh.
