What does a ‘rep’ mean for this event?

When you sign up to the Box Hill Super Climb, you’ll be prompted to choose a target number of “reps” to aim for. This is the number of times you want to climb Box Hill. For reference, each rep is 3.06 miles (1.53 miles up, 1.53 miles down), the total ascent for each rep is a climb of 116 metres. Below are some benchmarks for what this looks like across multiple reps, to help you inform your target.

  • 5 reps – 580 metres climbed – 15.3 miles distance
  • 10 reps – 1160 metres climbed – 30.6 miles distance
  • 15 reps – 1740 metres climbed – 45.9 miles distance
  • 20 reps – 2320 metres climbed – 61.2 miles distance
  • 25 reps – 2900 metres climbed – 76.5 miles distance

Don’t worry about the specific target you set, you can always change it on the day! It’s just for us to set start times, as well as give us the ability to celebrate you smashing through your target on the day!

What you’ll get for taking on the Box Hill Super Climb:

  • A personalised training plan from our partners at Full Potential.
  • One to one support from our training team.
  • An exclusive webinar to help you with your training and nutrition.

  • Access to the Team Sense cycling Facebook group to share training and fundraising updates.
  • Lots of hints and tips on how to make the most of your fundraising from our team.

Support and facilities on the day

  • Your own exclusive Sense cycling jersey.
  • Cheer points along the route, where your friends and family can join us in shouting your name!
  • Free access to massage therapy throughout the day to keep your legs feeling fresher for longer.

Is there a minimum number of reps I need to do in order to take part?

Not at all! This event is designed for everyone to test their individual limits (or compete against their friends!). Whether that is one sprint up Box Hill or a 30-rep test of your endurance, it’s completely up to you.

Is there a maximum number of reps I am allowed to do in the event?

Nope, the sky is the limit! If you’re a strong cyclist and want to go all out and set yourself a high target, you’re more than welcome to do so! The hill will be closed to public traffic from 9am to 5pm on the day, which should give you plenty of time to find your limit. If you’ve still got energy left to spare after 8 hours you are welcome to continue to climb, however the event will have officially closed, so any services provided by Sense such as rep counting, access to massage therapists and medical support etc will no longer be available. Additionally, after 5pm Sense will no longer be liable for any risk of injury that may occur. Essentially, after 5pm you would be cycling on public roads at your own risk and without Sense supervision.

How much does it cost to enter the event?

Registration is £39, and includes access to the event, free parking on the day, an exclusive Sense cycling jersey, and access to bespoke training support from our training partners at Full Potential.

Do I have to fundraise for this event?

Box Hill Super Climb is managed entirely by Sense, a charity that supports people who are deafblind or have complex disabilities. There is a minimum fundraising target of £350 for every participant in the event, and all money raised will go towards supporting Sense in delivering their vital work.

Are there any restrictions on the bike I can use?

  • Bikes must be in good working order and recently serviced.
  • The following bikes are not permitted due to safety reasons – recumbent cycles, triathlon / time trial bars, disc wheels or tri-spokes or tandems. If you are riding an e-bike, you’ll need to confirm with us in advance and you’ll be listed in a different tier within the results.
  • Helmets are mandatory and all riders must carry spare inner tubes, tyre levers and a pump or CO2 canisters

Your fundraising ensures no one is left out of life

Our #TeamSense fundraisers are key in helping us reach our ambitious goal to support 50,000 people over the next 5 years.

  • £135 could pay for a family to make memories on a Sense Family Day.
  • £500 could pay for a child who is deafblind to have a visit from a Sense specialist teacher, including an assessment and expert advice.
  • £725 could provide our core package of support for a family for a whole year!
