Screen magnifier software

What is screen magnifier software and how can it help?

ZoomText (Force Ten) | © Force Ten]Screen magnifier software can enlarge part of your computer’s display. This will help people who are partially sighted or cannot read small text.

The magnifying software may fill the whole screen or may just have a window showing the enlarged portion. If the software fills the whole screen there may be a navigation window showing which part of the screen is being enlarged.

What should I look for when buying one?

Both Apple Macs and Windows computers can enlarge text and zoom in to parts of the screen so it is worth trying these out first to see if they can help.

There are also some free screen magnifier packages although these are likely to be less easy to use than paid-for versions.

This is also something to think about if you are expected to lose your remaining sight over time. If you will be moving on to a screen reader or braille terminal then it may be easier to use one from the same company as your screen magnifier.
