Stefan Keeler, from Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire, overcame a chronic fear of heights to complete a tandem skydive and raise over £1,200 for Sense.

40-year old Stefan, who is the reception manager for Pennycuick Collins, decided to take on the skydiving challenge as part of a company-wide fundraising campaign. The chartered surveyors have named Sense as their nominated charity for a second year running, and hope to smash the incredible £10,000 raised in 2016 to support the charity’s new Birmingham-based resource centre, TouchBase Pears.

TouchBase Pears is a pioneering and innovative development that will provide specialist provision for disabled people, as well as services for the whole community, including a library, café and performance space. Pennycuick Collins staff will undertake a number of different fundraising activities for the centre throughout the year.

Despite a deep-rooted fear of heights, Stefan jumped from a plane at 12,000 ft. to take on a new personal challenge, and to raise awareness and funds to support those who are deafblind, have sensory impairments or other complex needs.

Stefan, said:

“I’m not really into extreme sports as I like to play things safe. I’ve thought about doing a skydive before but always bottled out of it as I really am that terrified of heights. I wanted to do something a bit different to what I’d normally do and felt this would be a great challenge for me, and a great opportunity to raise as much as I could for Sense. I also turned 40 this year, so thought that this is the time to do it.

“I have raised over £1,200 and I am so grateful for the support from friends and colleagues, so despite my fears I didn’t want to let them all down and not do it. I just knew I had to do this jump when it is for such a good cause!”

The money raised by Pennycuick Collins will help Sense continue its work supporting people who are deafblind, have sensory impairments or complex needs to live more independent lives.
