Personalisation and direct payments

Local authorities in England and Wales have been developing direct payments for many years, and many deafblind people now receive direct payments to purchase support.

It is important that deafblind people who want to receive a direct payment can access support to do so. It is also important to remember that there are good reasons why some deafblind people do not wish to use direct payments, and local authorities will need to be able to provide a direct service where this is required.

Putting everyone first is a practical guide for professionals who work with deafblind people to ensuring deafblind people with specialised needs benefit from personal / individual budgets.

Sense has worked with a number of other organisations to ensure that everyone, including deafblind people, benefits from the personalisation of social care payments.
