Oman Mountain Trek
About the event
Just two hours drive from Dubai, this incredible and unique trek takes place amongst the 'fjords of Arabia'. Taking boats to old fishing villages we will then trek through wadis, canyons, mountains and dramatic coastline, visiting remote villages before camping in the desert with campfires under a night sky strewn with stars.
This spectacular challenge offers you a fantastic sense of achievement at the end and the chance to experience the traditional way of Omani life. The trek will take you from the coastal town of Dibba, following ancient footpaths between abandoned villages before climbing into the mountains to reach the summit of Gebel Qihwi at 1,200m. During the days you’ll be dwarfed by mountains, carved out through the limestone over millennia.

Your challenge day by day
Day 1: Departure from London, meet the team and fly to Dubai, taking a coach to Dibba, Oman.
Day 2: Enjoy Dibba, freshen up in a plantation camp, visit a local fish market and recive your full briefing. Accommodation in large canvas tents.
Day 3: Trek to Smugglers Bay, ascend a small wadi and traverse the spectacular coastline. Get your first taste of the rocky terrain, have lunch in a abandoned village and tackle a difficult descent before having time to snorkel in the clear blue waters.
Day 4: Boat transfer to the remote fishing village of Haffa. Trek uphill from Haffa to see the spectacular fjord. Visit the village of He'el and see how life used to be like in Oman. The ascent travels over the roughest terrain of the entire trek and will be a real challenge for everyone. However, the views when we reach the ridge make all our efforts worthwhile. Camp amongst the majestic mountains that surround us.
Day 5: Trek further inland to Salhamdam and descend into the main Wadi Shamsi that cuts through the Musamdam. Our main task today is to negotiate the steeper, gorge like, wadi that lies in our path. Visit our most picturesque village yet, see an old water channel system and a hauntingly beautiful old cemetery.
Day 6: Trek uphill to the village of Aquabat to arguably the most spectacular part of the trek as we ascend to the summit of Gebel Qihwi (1,800m). The ascent gets progressively steeper and rockier until we reach the summit plateau. Take 4x4's back to Dibba in time to relax and celebrate in the Golden Tulip Hotel.
Day 7: Return coach to Dubai and a flight back to London.
