Dedicated Dickens aficionado Miriam Margolyes was the host of the first Sense Creative Writing Awards, which were held at the Dickens Museum in London 2006.
Miriam very kindly reprised her role as host of the Awards in 2010 when the event was held at the Geffrye Musuem, East London, where once again she read the impressive literary works of deafblind people.
Miriam’s film credits include Happy Feet, Babe, Romeo + Juliet and the 'Harry Potter films.
Miriam was recently interviewed on the Rob Cowan breakfast show on BBC Radio 3, and spoke about Sense:
"It's one of the most inspiring charities I've ever been associated with. It's called Sense and you can't imagine what it's like to see people who would otherwise be locked in.
"People are able to experience the world through their hands. The hands of the interpreter signs a kind of braille on their open palm.
"I'm privileged to have been able to read some of the writing of some of these people afflicted with this deprivation. But they are able to rise above it - they are totally living in this world."
