Hugo has CHARGE syndrome. He is deafblind and also has serious heart problems. He was born with limited hearing, but sadly this has slowly deteriorated and he now has no hearing at all. Yet despite this, Hugo is making great progress at school.
How Sense is helping Hugo
When Hugo started school last year, Sense helped with his Statement of Special Needs and made sure that everything at his school was adapted so that he could learn in the way that’s right for him. This has made a big difference already earlier Hugo relied very heavily on photo cards to communicate, but he is now mastering Makaton signs, and has even started learning British Sign Language!
“It’s been wonderful to see Hugo’s communication develop at his new school. He also loves playing with the other children and has made lots of friends something we weren’t sure that he’d ever be able to do because of his complex needs”
Clare, Hugo’s mum
Your gift of £59 could pay for an initial telephone consultation for the family of a deafblind child who is preparing for school.
