Parachute run

A great extra-sensory game for groups, where players take turns making their way to the other side of the before the parachute comes back down.

This guide is part of our Sense Arts, Sport & Wellbeing programme. This activity can be done at a time that suits you, either in your own space or in an educational setting.

Who is this for?

This is a sports activity for people or groups of people who are deafblind or have complex disabilities, and can be enjoyed by anyone.

Why does this make a difference?

This sensory activity supports social inclusion and getting active, helping build confidence and independence through learning new skills, encouraging health and fitness, and making friends.

How to play

What you’ll need

  • Parachute or a large sheet

How to set up

  • Everyone stands around the parachute and holds it tight at waist level

How to play

  • Players lift the parachute up above their heads and down again
  • As the players lift the parachute, the leader calls out a name
  • The named player then has to get to the other side of the parachute before it comes back down

Other ways to play

  • Instead of names, why not call out other ways of identifying people like clothes or hair, like “everyone who has white shoes”!
  • Make it more sensory by playing a sound every time a player reaches the other side
  • Hold the parachute up for longer or bring it down more quickly to adapt the difficulty
  • Call out multiple names at once for more of a challenge
