Elliot, a young deafblind boy

Sense is running a special TV appeal for our work with children who are both deaf and blind.

You can watch the appeal or read the transcript. Please make a donation now and help us bring a child like Elliot into our world.

Sense is the leading national charity that supports and campaigns for children and adults who are deafblind

At an event for people who are deafblind

Volunteering on a Sense event with people who are deafblind and their families is a great way to develop new skills, meet new people, and gain a sense of achievement. A previous volunteer commented:

“There are no words to express how it made me feel - amazing, rewarding, fulfilling just do not come close to the experience achieved.”

They are also good fun. As a volunteer you would support people of all ages who are deafblind, as well as their siblings, to get the most out of each event. Every event is different; you could be supporting one person or a few. Your role on the day could involve swimming, spending time in a sensory room or going out on a day trip. It could be an event which lasts the whole weekend or a few hours.

We don't expect previous experience or knowledge as we offer complete support and training. Often the best way to get involved in our events is to help out on a Sense holiday first, as this is where a lot of our volunteers build up their skills and knowledge. We welcome anyone to apply, so please contact the voluntary services team for further information.
