Communications team volunteer, London N1
Hours: Ideally a minimum of 7 hours per week, between 9am-5.30pm, Mon-Fri.
About the volunteer role:
The Communications Team is responsible for all of Sense's publishing, information and media activity. This includes managing Sense website, press and public relations, and the production of information leaflets and materials. We are seeking a part-time volunteer to support this busy and friendly team with basic media monitoring and simple information enquiry handling. In return we offer the opportunity to contribute to the important work that Sense undertakes with deafblind people, and a chance to develop skills and experience in a busy office environment.
Tasks and responsibilities
Media monitoring
- Reviewing daily and weekend newspapers for stories relevant to Sense and its work
- Taking cuttings of relevant articles
- Occasionally preparing a weekly digest of such press coverage
- Assisting the Press and PR Officers in carrying out routine administrative tasks
Information enquiries
- Assisting the Web Information Services Assistant in fulfilling simple enquiries about Sense and deafblindness.
- Preparing information packs with relevant factsheets and information leaflets
- Monitoring stocks of leaflets and factsheets
- Photocopying information materials as required
- Posting information packs to enquirers
- Taking telephone messages
- Assisting in the cataloguing of materials for the Sense library
Skills required
- Keen interest in news and current affairs
- Good organisational skills
- Basic IT skills (including knowledge of Microsoft Word)
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to maintain simple filing systems
