Sense Trading started selling on eBay in July 2002 with the opening of their online shop, Sense Antiques, specialising in the more collectable items donated into their high street shops.
In August 2005 Sense Clothing was opened, through which we sell designer, vintage and new clothing and accessories, a mix of donated and bought in items. We expanded further in 2008 when we launched Sense Treasures and Sense Bookshop selling jewellery and books respectively.
Successes
We have raised tens of hundreds of thousands of pounds for Sense through this selling medium and, despite the Credit Crunch, sales just seem to keep on growing! Selling online not only raises valuable funds but also increases the charities profile.
The secret of our success? We offer a good variety of products and an after sales service that is second to none, as reflected in or high feedback ratings and Power Seller status.
Our most valuable item to date was a pair of Art Deco diamond earrings that sold for a staggering £1000, closely followed by a vintage Ossie Clark dress that realised £800 at auction.
Selling on eBay is a fascinating experience and we never fail to be surprised at the extravagant prices paid for seemingly mundane items. For example, in the run up to Christmas we sold one glass bauble for £30 and earlier in the year a knitting leaflet to make a toy cat sold for £40!
Anyone can sell items on eBay and choose to donate a percentage of the final selling value to charity - simply selecting the charity they wish to benefit and the percentage that they wish to donate on the selling form – it is as simple as that!
