Leaving a gift to Sense in your will couldn't be easier, just follow these simple steps:
- consider your family and friends’ needs first
- plan what type of gift you wish to give to Sense
- seek legal advice
- make or change your Will.
Consider your family and friends’ needs
First and foremost, it is important to consider family, friends and carers in your will. Then you will be free to consider charities and organisations you admire and respect. We hope you will consider including Sense as a worthy beneficiary in your will. For more information on inheritance tax liability, please visit the revenue and customs website.
Plan what type of gift you wish to leave to Sense
Sense is happy to accept any of the following gifts in your will:
- a share of my residuary estate
- the whole of my residuary estate
- sum of money
- reversionary interest
- specific item or property.
Seek legal advice
Many people have the best of intentions to make an appointment with a solicitor but somehow they never find the time. Making a will and keeping it up to date is one of the most important actions you will ever take. In fact, it's a commitment to life. An up-to-date will ensures that all those you want to help - family, friends and charities - benefit from your generosity.
Make or change your will
Our ‘Guide to making a Will’ explains in plain English the process of making or changing your will, and introduces you to many of the legal terms you will encounter. Spending some time reading through it now before you see your solicitor will be invaluable.
Example wording for your solicitor:
‘I give devise and bequeath to Sense, the National Deafblind and Rubella Association, of 101 Pentonville Rd, London N1 9LG Registered Charity number 289868 (a share/ the whole of my residuary estate/ sum of money/ reversionary interest/ specific item or property) for its general charitable purposes. I declare that the receipt of the Treasurer or other proper officer will be sufficient discharge to my Executors.’
Legal advice
We recommend you obtain legal advice whenever you make or change your will. If you don’t know of any, Sense can provide you with details of suitably qualified solicitors in your area. For more information, email the legacy team.
Our promise to you
When you have put a gift in your will to Sense, or plan to do so, what happens next is entirely up to you. We’d like to tell you occasionally about opportunities to see Sense in action, close up and about special events you may find interesting. But if you would prefer not to have any further contact with Sense in relation to this gift, that is fine too. Whatever is right for you is right for us. Please remember, anything you tell us is in the strictest confidence.
Would you like to let us know?
If you feel able please let us know what you have done. Having some idea of whether our efforts to let people know about this great way of giving are getting through would help enormously.
