Living Options

Individual living opportunities

Sense provides a range of living options designed to meet personal preferences and individual needs. These range from group homes in registered settings to independent supported living, and are all designed to maximise independence, develop skills and abilities, and promote personal choice.

Sense offers living environments that recognise the individual needs of each person and provide opportunities, challenges and support that allow individuals to be proactive in determining their preferred lifestyle. Homes range from single person flats to family-style homes where several people live together.

Operational policies, staffing levels and lifestyles within each service are determined by the specific preferences and needs of the residents and their uniqueness as individuals.

An adapted environment

All accommodation is specifically adapted to allow the sensory-impaired person to access, understand and control as much of their immediate world as possible.

Use of high colour contrasts, textured surfaces, modified lighting and acoustics help to maximise use of residual vision and hearing, and enhance mobility and independence.

Maximising people’s potential

Each user has an individual programme that utilises both daily living experiences and specialist resources to enable them to develop the skills they need to achieve their dreams and aspirations.

Each person is offered a range of opportunities which provide challenges, enjoyment and the chance to interact with others and with the community and environment.

Trained staff

All staff are specifically trained in deafblindness and a range of other specialist skills such as behavioural management and communication.

Who are these services for?
