Guinness World record holder and deafblind man, Graham Hicks will shortly be hitting the road for a London to Paris cycling challenge.
Graham is teaming up with his cousin, Denise Hicks for double pedal power on a tandem bike. They will cycle for three days with 25 other cyclists. Departing from London’s Tower Bridge on 21 August and set to arrive at the Eiffel Tower on 23 August, Graham and Denise will be cycling to raise funds for Sense.
Graham said: "This is a major endurance team challenge by anyone's standards, covering 203 miles in three days. Riding a tandem is all about team work and sticking it out together… I am pleased once again to be demonstrating that being deafblind is no barrier to sport. Denise is a great front tandem rider and I'm sure we'll do well together".
While Denise will pedal at the front, to give himself greater responsibility, Graham has moved the gear levers onto the rear handlebars. This keeps him busy where otherwise it could get “a bit boring” and makes it a truly team effort.
Marianne Beggs, Sense Fundraising Manager said, "We're delighted Graham is taking part in this challenge to raise vital funds to support deafblind people. His independence is truly inspiring."
