Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness in people aged 55 or over. Early symptoms include blurring to the centre of vision and the distortion of straight lines.
A recently launched campaign provides information packs about AMD prevention and managing the condition. There are packs for individuals, health professionals and eye care specialists.
Sense is keen to make sure individuals have the right information to enable them to take steps to reduce the risk of developing AMD. Individuals must also receive the right information and support should AMD occur. If individuals have existing hearing loss additional vision loss can have a profound impact. Sense’s work with older people includes working with people who have both AMD and hearing loss.
