Sense needs a man

The holidays team at Sense are seeking men to join other volunteers in supporting deafblind children and adults on week long holidays this summer. The holidays run between Friday the 23 July and Saturday the 28 of August.

Sense holidays give deafblind people the chance to get away from it all, taste new experiences and have a lot of fun! They also give families a much needed break from the often demanding work of supporting a deafblind person.

To give holiday makers the best possible experience we need more men to get involved this summer.

Andy's story as a male volunteer

Andy was working in IT when he first volunteered for Sense and was nervous that he had little in the way of experience to prepare himself for the holiday:

"I don't have children, I have never held a job in a caring role and frankly I really believed I didn't have the skills required to care for someone else because I find it hard enough to look after myself!"

However once he had decided to give it his best, Andy had an incredible week and more importantly the holidaymaker he supported enjoyed his holiday immensely.

“It is 24/7. You don't get much time off. But the holidaymakers had such an amazing time and to be part of that experience is hugely rewarding. The holiday went above and beyond my expectations. Nothing fazes me any more. A Sense holiday is a life-changer”

Eight years later, Andy considers the Sense holidays the best weeks of his year.
