Elliot, a young deafblind boy

Sense is running a special TV appeal for our work with children who are both deaf and blind.

You can watch the appeal or read the transcript. Please make a donation now and help us bring a child like Elliot into our world.

Sense is the leading national charity that supports and campaigns for children and adults who are deafblind

Funding

There are several ways you can get help with funding for obtaining equipment. The most important issue is whether you need it for home or for work.

For work

The government has a scheme called Access to Work which can help you fund the cost of equipment for your job, as well as helping with interpretors for interviews.

For more details, please visit the Jobcentre Plus website.

At home

The best course of action is to ensure that you receive an assessment from social services. You are entitled to an assessment under the Section 7 guidance. For more information, read the rights publications.

Once this assessment has been carried out, they will be able to advise you what equipment you need and of any financial support available.

If you are having problems receiving an assessment, or if you think that social services have wrongly assessed you, we may be able to help. Click here to contact the Campaigns department.

Grants

There are some grants available for help with equipment. The DLF has a factsheet "Sources of funding and obtaining equipment for disabled and older people" which has a section on Funding from charities and grant giving trusts.

For further information about grants for PC equipment, please see AbilityNet's factsheet "Funding for an Adapted Computer System".
