There are several ways you can get help with funding for obtaining equipment. The most important issue is whether you need it for home or for work.
For work
The government has a scheme called Access to Work which can help you fund the cost of equipment for your job, as well as helping with interpreters for interviews.
For more details, visit the Jobcentre Plus website (opens a new window).
At home
The best course of action is to ensure that you receive an assessment from social services. You are entitled to an assessment under the deafblind guidance. For more information, read the rights publications.
Once this assessment has been carried out, they will be able to advise you what equipment you need and of any financial support available.
If you are having problems receiving an assessment, or if you think that social services have wrongly assessed you, we may be able to help. Contact the Campaigns department for help.
You may be able to receive a direct payment to pay for equipment. For information on using direct payments to buy equipment, see the factshseets on one-off direct payments.
Grants
There are some grants available for help with equipment. Read the factsheets (pdf, 141kb - opens a new window) from Disability Living Foundation about the funding and obtaining equipment for disabled and older people.
For further information about grants for computer equipment, please see AbilityNet's factsheet (pdf, 65kb - opens a new window) called Funding for an Adapted Computer System.
