Current personalisation pilots

Alongside direct payments and personal budgets, the Department of Health and the Department for Children, Schools and Families are carrying out some personalisation pilots in England.

Individual budgets for children and young people

There are six different sites for the individual budgets pilots for children and young people: Coventry, Derbyshire, Essex, Gateshead, Gloucestershire and Newcastle. The pilots are looking to bring together different funding streams, including social care, short breaks, health and equipment funding. The pilots will run from 2009 to 2011. For more information see the Department for Children, Schools and Families website.

Personal health budgets for children and adults

There are over 70 pilot sites in England for personal health budgets. In the future some of these sites will also offer direct payments for health. The pilots will follow the model of personal budgets for social care, so your personal budget could be managed by the NHS, a third party or taken as a direct payment. The pilots will run until 2012. For more information see the Department of Health website.

If you have experience of either of these pilots, please contact the Sense Public Policy Team
