Powerful story of deafblind people and families
08 February 2012
A new book published by Sense - Our Journey - is a powerful account of the experiences of over fifty families involved with Sense and Sense Scotland over five decades.
Honestly and courageously, the families detail the highs and lows. "I remember thinking there were two options," writes one parent, "either you get on with it after being told you have a rubella-damaged child or you jump off Tower Bridge... there was no contest."
The families document the years spent going from one medical appointment to another, and the search for education and care services that understood their needs. And they tell of the invaluable support they received from other families and from Sense.
"We contacted the Rubella Association…it was wonderful to be able to talk to people with the same problems, and to benefit from their knowledge and experience…."
This remarkable book is fascinating, informative, moving and inspiring. It can be purchased from our Sense Ebay shop - price £10. For alternative formats please call 020 7014 9383 or email colin.anderson@sense.org.uk.
