Older people and human rights in home care Inquiry
23 November 2011
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has published a report showing evidence of poor practice in some of the home care sector.
Sense responded to the initial Inquiry, as we are concerned about deafblind older people receiving adequate support.
The examples in the report show that deafblind older people need a home care worker who has enough time to communicate with them, as well as training in basic communication skills. This is essential if deafblind older people are to keep their dignity and have meaningful communication.
Sense has free and easy-to-use resources for home care staff to help them give the right support to older people with a dual sensory loss.
