National Sense Awards 2012 for deafblind people and volunteers

04 October 2012

This year’s national Sense Awards saw the three co-editors of “Our Journey”, a book capturing over fifty years of deafblind people’s stories throughout the UK, awarded the Sense Unique Contribution award for raising awareness of Sense and deafblindness.

Held at a special ceremony in London on 4 October hosted by designer and TV personality Linda Barker and Sense’s CEO Gillian Morbey OBE, the Sense awards are given in recognition of exceptional achievements for deafblind people and their supporters who have campaigned, volunteered and worked often for decades.

Delivering "a truly memorable book, a testament to the journeys of a generation of devoted and determined parents" volunteer editors and parents Anne and John Chapman and Gini Bartlett oversaw the book "Our Journey" getting it published and capturing over sixty stories that have helped Sense to create better understanding of deafblindness.

Gillian Morbey OBE, Chief Executive of Sense, said: "I am delighted for all our winners and nominees. Their contributions show how much deafblind people can accomplish and this deserves to be celebrated. Congratulations!"
