How campaigning works

Young deafblind person, Laura, felt her hopes of getting to university being dashed when she came across access problems using the library. With a little help from friends, she successfully campaigned for better access. Find out how she did it- watch our BSL videos below and / or read the transcript.

Part 1: Introduction

This part is an introduction by Sarah Reed, a deaf and visually impaired person.

Part 2: The campaign

This part, introduced by a deaf lady called Anna, explains a campaign run by a deaf and visually impaired lady, Laura. She had an issue with her library refusing to provide a deaf alert pager system.

This part shows Laura ensuring that the local councillor responsible for library services meets her and discusses the issue.

Part 5: Building support and speaking to the public

This part shows Laura using various techniques to build support.

Part 6: Working with the media and recognising success

This part shows Laura meeting a local newspaper journalist and photographer. Laura also visits the library again and celebrates the end of her campaign.
