Sense is the leading national charity that supports and campaigns for children and adults who are deafblind

About the campaign

Too many older people who are deafblind miss out on the support they need. Sense’s Fill in the Gaps campaign is changing this.

The campaign aims to ensure that all professionals working with older people recognise and support those with a combined sight and hearing loss.

Previous phases of the campaign focused on:

  • ensuring that people with older relatives who do not see or hear well know what support is available and how to access it
  • improving the support that providers of residential or home-based care services provide to older people who are deafblind.

The next phase of the campaign, launched on 30 September 2008, is focusing on ensuring that primary healthcare providers, such as general practitioners (GPs) and practice nurses, identify older people who are deafblind and refer them to social services for appropriate specialist support.

To motivate primary healthcare providers to identify and refer older people who are deafblind, we would like you to show your support.
