Community activities

China TownAnne Wall Centre users are supported to use a wide range of community facilities, and also to access work in a range of settings in the local area. We have three vehicles including a wheelchair accessible minibus so that we can support trips that are not accessible by public transport.

Many people have both internal and external work placements. All these jobs are tailored to suit individual needs. Community based work placements vary and we have a wide range of jobs at present; office work for a small charity, shelf stacking in a supermarket, laying tables in a restaurant, organising the tables and behind bar area in a pub, cleaning in the local church, leaflet delivery, work in the local stables, volunteering at a local coffee morning, work in a local gym and office work for Sense.

The jobs do not only help people to increase their skill base, but also increase opportunities to form meaningful relationships with people other than paid support workers and to feel like a valuable member of the community. Communication and money management skills are also developed through these placements. Companies and organisations can work with us in providing work placements for individuals.

Car at a banger racing eventThe Anne Wall Centre also organises day trips each year, which are planned with the individual in mind and vary dramatically from person to person. Previous outings include, visiting a chocolate factory, jet skiing, visiting lavender gardens, a day spa and pampering, musicals and theatre performances, cinema trips, banger racing, a trip to Chinatown, and seaside visits amongst others.

Deafblind adults are also supported to go horse riding and swimming in local pools, go for sensory walks and drive to parks and other venues to gain different life experiences.
